Mission Statement of the Equal Opportunity Officers of the TUM School of Natural Sciences

The Equal Opportunity Officers of the TUM School of Natural Sciences are committed to achieving genuine gender equality across all areas of education, research, and academic governance. In accordance with the Bavarian Higher Education Act, they actively work to eliminate structural and individual disadvantages and to promote an inclusive, fair, and respectful academic culture.

Their mission is to sustainably increase the proportion of women at all academic and career levels and to strengthen scientific excellence through diversity.

Objectives of the Equal Opportunity Officers

  1. Advancing Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality
Actively supporting the School in enforcing gender equality for all genders and in systematically eliminating existing structural and individual disadvantages.
  2. Increasing the Proportion of Women at All Academic Levels
Sustainably increasing the representation of women across all qualification stages – from female students and early-career researchers to professorships and leadership positions.
  3. Contributing to Transparent and Fair Decision-Making Processes
Participating in appointment committees to ensure fair, non-discriminatory, and bias-aware procedures.
  4. Developing and Implementing Equality Measures
Actively contributing to the design, implementation, and evaluation of strategies and measures at the School level.
  5. Improving the Compatibility of Academia, Studies, and Family Responsibilities
Supporting the development and implementation of measures that enhance the compatibility of academic careers and studies with family obligations.
  6. Counselling, Support, and Protection Against Discrimination
Providing confidential counselling and support to female students and researchers, particularly in cases of discrimination, sexual harassment, abuse of power, and unconscious bias.
  7. Fostering an Inclusive and Respectful Academic Culture
Raising awareness of equality-related issues and structural inequalities while strengthening a culture of diversity and mutual respect.
