During a high-level delegation visit to Munich and Garching at the end of January 2026, Tsinghua University President Prof. Luming Li awarded Prof. Franz Pfeiffer the honorary professorship. The award ceremony took place in the context of the close institutional cooperation between TUM and Tsinghua University.

Founded in 1911, Tsinghua University is considered China's leading technical university and one of the best universities worldwide. The flagship partnership between TUM and Tsinghua University, established in 2020, is now being strengthened and elevated. The common goal is to expand cooperation in research, teaching, innovation, and entrepreneurship in a sustainable way.

The honorary professorship awarded to Prof. Pfeiffer will strengthen scientific cooperation in medical imaging and the development of a new generation of X-ray sources based on inverse Compton scattering. These fields of research offer great potential for basic research and developing innovative diagnostic procedures with clinical applications.
