Prof. Thomas Fässler, Chair of Inorganic Chemistry with Focus on Novel Materials at the TUM School of Natural Sciences, was honored with the Margot Becke Lecture at Heidelberg University on November 18, 2025. The title of his lecture was “Molecules Meet Solids - Cage Molecules and Intermetalloid Clusters of p- and d-Block Elements”, which was well-received at the event.
The lecture series commemorates Professor Dr. Margot Becke (1914–2009), a pioneering inorganic chemist and the first woman to serve as rector of a West German university. From 1949 onward, Becke shaped research and teaching at Heidelberg University, where she became a full professor in 1961 and rector from 1966 to 1968.
The Margot und Friedrich Becke Stiftung awards this distinction to outstanding researchers in inorganic chemistry, preserving Becke’s scientific legacy and inspiring future generations.
