Child care
Illnesses, last-minute appointments and commitments outside of core care hours often present parents with a major challenge. We are happy to support you with the following offers of flexible childcare: nurseries and family rooms, changing tables, and quiet rooms or breastfeeding facilities.
TUM supports employees with children of all ages and provides children's/family rooms, breastfeeding and nappy-changing rooms, and highchairs at various locations.
In addition, TUM offers you a comprehensive range of information, advice and services relating to the compatibility of work/study and family at TUM. You will find support to help you find suitable childcare – from nurseries through afterschool care to last-minute babysitters. The university also offers a school holiday program (Bewegte TUM-Ferien) for your children and can even help you make arrangements for family members who need care.
For children of foreign employees, the "Campus School Classes" are offered in cooperation with the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Garching to enable children to transition from their native languages to German-speaking classes.
Children's room in the Chemistry building
In the Chemistry building (room CH26501) there is a children's room which is open to all members of the School. Here you can find all information about it.
The room can serve several functions at the same time:
On the one hand, expectant or nursing mothers can find a place to relax here. On the other hand, parents can work while their children play. Small meetings with a few students or employees are also possible. The room can also be a pure play space to bridge waiting times during meetings, conferences or long expressions that go beyond the opening hours of the regular childcare. Taking this special feature of the Faculty of Chemistry into account is a special concern in the context of creating family-friendly working conditions.
Finally, the room can also be used for childcare by professional staff. This childcare is provided in cooperation with the agency 'Rund um Familie' (R.U.F.).
On the following pages you will find more detailed information about the equipment of the children's room and the usage guidelines. It is also possible to book the children's room and the care in it.
The children's room is centrally located on the first floor of the faculty in room CH26501, opposite the cafeteria. It is open for use by students, academic and non-academic employees, as well as guests with their children. In addition, if needed, a (temporary, chargeable)
If you have any questions about the children's room, you can contact the School Women's Representative, Oksana Storcheva (frauenbeauftragte(at)ch.tum.de).
Please note: Children with acute illnesses cannot be cared for in the children's room! Any cleaning and disinfection costs incurred will be charged to the parents of affected children!
The children's room is equipped with everything necessary to provide children of different ages with varied activities:
- a play kitchen
- various toys (building blocks, Duplo bricks, children's games, wooden train, abacus, ...) and various children's books
- a play rug

- washbasin
- changing table
Additionally, a microwave is available in close proximity (in the Dean's kitchen CH26509).
