Atomistic Modeling Center hosts annual retreat in Raitenhaslach

Accelerated Scientific Discovery, AMC, Physics | 11.08.2025

Researchers exchanged scientific views and shared updates on current research at TUM’s Science & Study Center in Burghausen during July 22- 23, 2025

Nine doctoral students, four postdoctoral researchers, and six TUM professors gathered at the Atomistic Modeling Center (AMC) retreat. The young scientists presented their approaches to the challenges facing the research field — theoretical, computational, and machine learning. They presented solutions and reported on successful results from their current research projects.

The diversity of projects and expertise at TUM was highlighted in the program, which featured representatives from TUM’s Schools of Computation, Information & Technology, Engineering & Design, and Natural Sciences.

In addition to these project presentations, there were two practice-oriented workshops on the topics of “Poster presentations” and “Pitching your next manuscript to your research group leader” by Dr. Heidi Henrickson (TUM School of Natural Sciences).

The diversity of research topics was also reflected in the composition of the participants, with researchers representing three different TUM Schools: the School of Computation, Information and Technology, the School of Engineering and Design, and the School of Natural Sciences.

This kick-off to an annual event was organized by AMC Director Prof. Patrick Rinke with the support of Silvia Plail and Barbara Asam (NAT). The researchers met from July 22 to 24, 2025, at the TUM Science & Study Center Raitenhaslach near Burghausen. A detailed agenda can be found here.
