TUM once again named best university in the EU

Bioscience, Chemistry, Physics, Ranking | 09.10.2025

Physical Sciences within TOP 20 (Rank 19)

The THE rankings show the quality of research at TUM, as seen here in the field of astrophysics.

In the new rankings by Times Higher Education (THE), the Technical University of Munich (TUM) is ranked 27th, once again making it the best university in the European Union.

The World University Rankings published by the British magazine are one of the most renowned evaluations of universities. TUM has been among the top 30 for several years. In the THE rankings for individual subject areas, TUM has already reached the top 20 in computer science (14th place) and physical sciences (19th place).

The THE rankings take various factors into account: on the one hand, academics worldwide are asked about the reputation of universities in research and teaching. On the other hand, data such as the number of publications per researcher, citations per publication, the ratio of teaching staff to students, third-party funding raised from industry, the number of patents and the degree of internationalization are evaluated.

Numerous other recognized rankings regularly confirm the internationally outstanding quality of TUM in research, teaching and innovation. In the QS World University Rankings, it is ranked 22nd. It ranks 13th in the Global Employability Ranking, which assesses the qualifications of graduates, and 7th among universities that educate Digital Leaders in Higher Education. In the Interdisciplinary Science Ranking, TUM is number 12. And in the University Impact Ranking, TUM is the top university worldwide in the category Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure.
