When scientists write research papers, they cite the most important papers that have already been published on the topic. Therefore, the total number of times a paper is cited is a good indicator of the quality of the research. To identify the most highly cited researchers, the US company Clarivate annually analyzes its Web of Science database, which covers scientific publications in a broad range of disciplines.

The latest evaluation lists the scientists who were cited most frequently in their subject areas in the period from 2014 to 2024. Researchers who are frequently cited in multiple fields are listed in the Cross-Field category. The list contains the names of about 7,100 persons in no specific order, including the following TUM researchers:

Cross-Field:

  • Prof. Dr. Hubert Gasteiger, Lehrstuhl für Technische Elektrochemie
  • Prof. Dr. Dirk Haller, Lehrstuhl für Ernährung und Immunologie
  • Prof. Dr. Bernhard Küster, Lehrstuhl für Proteomik und Bioanalytik
  • Prof. Dr. Peter Müller-Buschbaum, Lehrstuhl für Funktionelle Materialien
  • Prof. Dr. Anja Rammig, Professur für Land Surface-Atmosphere Interactions
  • Prof. Dr. Daniel Rückert, Lehrstuhl für Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare and Medicine
  • Prof. Dr. Melanie Schirmer, Professur für Translational Microbiome Data Integration
  • Prof. Dr. Mikael Simons, Lehrstuhl für Molekulare Neurobiologie
