TUM Spin-off Qkera Receives Pre-Seed Investment from InnoEnergy to Accelerate Battery Technology

Start-ups, e-conversion, Chemistry, Physics | 14.10.2025

The investment led by InnoEnergy strengthens the TUM spin-off Qkera in the commercialization of ceramic electrolyte membranes for next-generation solid-state batteries.

The battery start-up Qkera, founded by Prof. Jennifer Rupp (Chief Strategy Officer) and Dr. Andreas Weis (Managing Director), is a spin-off of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) and the Cluster of Excellence e-conversion. The company has received a significant pre-seed investment from InnoEnergy. Its goal is to commercialize next-generation solid-state batteries based on innovative materials – ion-conducting solids.

“We are particularly delighted to have InnoEnergy on board,” says Prof. Jennifer Rupp, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Qkera. “With their extensive portfolio of energy start-ups, strong network, and leading role in the European Battery Alliance, we couldn’t ask for a better partner to help us scale our technology.”

The investment not only highlights European investors’ confidence in domestic deep-tech manufacturing, but also emphasizes the importance of diversity in the start-up ecosystem: Prof. Rupp is among the few female deep-tech founders in Germany. Her dual role as scientist and entrepreneur illustrates how academic excellence and entrepreneurial courage can jointly drive the energy transition forward.
