The School of Natural Sciences has a solid infrastructure, which provides sound and efficient support for all employees in their research and teaching tasks. The protection of people at all our locations has the highest priority. In the event of an emergency, please contact us immediately and answer the questions concisely and precisely.
The Electronics Department offers a wide range of services. In addition to technical services, we provide guidance to bachelor's and master's students on specific issues and support aspiring researchers by imparting practical knowledge in the fields of laboratory measurement technology and data acquisition.
The precision engineering workshop manufactures components and devices needed in the laboratory that are not commercially available. For all custom-made items, the staff of the precision engineering workshop work closely with the researchers, successfully implementing even the most complex requests.
The glassblowing workshop at the TUM School of Natural Sciences provides custom-made glassware for research and teaching, including special designs based on drawings, tailored solutions, and on-site assembly for large-scale equipment. It also offers repair and modification of existing glass apparatuses, including feasibility assessments and sourcing of spare parts. Additionally, the services include hot and cold processing of borosilicate glass and the storage of glass components and spare parts. Further information can be found here.
The department oversees our central IT infrastructure. In addition to operating our own systems and IT services, we support the provision of services from the Leibniz Supercomputing Centre and the IT Service Centre of TUM. This includes actively participating in the development of new services and coordinating their implementation.
Our team for lab courses and lectures with experiments at the TUM School of Natural Sciences. Further information can be found here.
Our mission is the prevention of workplace accidents and the protection of your health and the environment. Further information can be found here.
Student and Scientific computing services operate approximately 60 workstations for students, about 200 workstations for employees, and 108 Compute-Servern (5968 Cores/11936 Cores HT, 46208 GB RAM) with a broad selection of scientific and standard software. Further information can be found here.
The branch libraries of Chemistry and Physics offer a wide range of textbooks and specialist books in chemistry and physics. In addition, our branch libraries provide numerous reading areas and carrels (individual study booths) for focused work, as well as group study rooms for collaboration and discussion. All our branch libraries are equipped with the necessary technical facilities for scanning, computers, and internet access. Further information can be found here.
The Supply and Disposal Department is responsible for the procurement and distribution of materials and chemicals, as well as for the disposal of hazardous waste. It manages goods receipt at location 5400 (package acceptance and distribution) and supplies both practical courses and research groups with common chemicals, solvents, compressed gas cylinders, glassware, and laboratory consumables. Further information can be found here.
We supply our research groups with technical gases, liquid nitrogen (LN₂), and liquid helium (LHe). To this end, the Central Cooling and Gas Supply (ZKV) maintains, among other things, a gas storage facility and a fleet of LN₂ and LHe containers. The helium recovery system, which is centrally operated by the Garching Technical Services, as well as the LN₂ tank, are utilized and monitored by the ZKV. Further information can be found here.
